Compliance - Facebook and Myspace
I want to call
attention to an issue which has recently generated intense
discussions on college campuses and within athletic departments
nationwide, the posting of individual profiles and photographs on
facebook.com, myspace.com and other similar websites. In some
instances the posting of inappropriate photographs and other
content ultimately led to disciplinary action against those persons
including dismissal from teams as well as employment.
Additionally, fans of opposing teams have downloaded information or
images posted on these websites to taunt and humiliate. The media
has also used this type of information for intense scrutiny of
those involved in intercollegiate athletics. With that, I want to
bring this issue to your attention and ask that you exercise great
care when displaying any personal information in a public
forum.
Please remember that you are an ambassador of Augusta State
University and you are always in the public eye. Do not post
information or pictures on-line which would embarrass you, your
team or Augusta State University. Content posted by students at
other institutions or even other students on this campus may not be
acceptable on your personal on-line profile. I ask that each one of
you keep this in mind as you continue to post information and
images on these various websites.
Please let this memo serve as our athletic department stated policy
on the issue.
