John L. Sullivan, better known as
“Doc” to the Augusta State University community, is in
his 25th year as the Assistant AD/Sports Medicine for the ASU
Department of Athletics.
Sullivan heads an athletic training staff of four in the care and
injury prevention for the 13-sport program at ASU.
Prior to Augusta State, Sullivan worked for a year at the Sports
Medicine Center in Macon, Ga. On the collegiate level, he served as
the Head Athletic Trainer at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson
City, Tenn., from 1984-1987. During that time, the Eagles won a
pair of NAIA Division I football national championships.
A diehard Tennessee Volunteers fan, Sullivan earned his
undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State in 1977 and followed
with a M.S. in education in 1981 from Furman University.
A member of NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) and the
Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association, Sullivan and his wife
Pat reside in North Augusta, S.C.
