Pacers Top ASU, 9-3
AIKEN, S.C. - USC
Aiken topped Augusta State 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon in game one
of the 2nd annual Outback Cup at Roberto Hernandez Stadium in
Aiken, S.C.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 6-11 overall, while the
Pacers improved to 9-6 on the season.
For the Jags, Nick Terry was tagged with loss and dropped to 0-1 on
the season. He relieved starting pitcher Scott Shipman in the third
and pitched 2.0 innings. Terry gave up one run on two hits and
struck out one batter.
For USC Aiken, Thomas Mcleod earned the win and improved to 1-1
overall. McLeod relieved starting pitcher Jason Cochcroft in the
second. He allowed gave up only two this and had three strikeouts
in 5.0 innings of work.
Tony Baker and Matt Smith led the Jags offensively with two hits
each on the afternoon with an RBI, while Phillip Anchors had a hit
with one run batted in. Alex Sickman and Evan Smith each had a hit
on the day.
For the Pacers, Bill Rice, Noah Wethington and Josh Miller each had
two hits on the day, with Rice knocking out a home and had two RBI.
Nick Arenas had a homer with three RBI, and Stephen Carmon had a
hit with two RBI.
The second game of the 2010 Outback Cup will be at 6:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, March 23 in Augusta, Ga., at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
ASU is back in action on Thursday, March 4, when they host Erskine
for a non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First pitch is
slated for 4:00 p.m.
