Jags Top Georgia Southwestern

Augusta State avoided a sweep Sunday afternoon with a 9-6 victory
over Georgia Southwestern in the finale of a three-game Peach Belt
Conference series at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 9-18 overall and 1-8 in the conference, while Georgia Southwestern dropped to 14-7 on the season and 6-3 in the league.
For the Jags, Curtis Parker (1-0) earned his first collegiate start and received the win. Parker lasted five innings and gave up only one earned run on three hits. Josh Barks came in during the ninth and closed out the game.
For the 'Canes, Tyler Daniel (2-3) was tagged with the loss and lasted 3.1 innings. Daniel gave up four earned runs on five hits and had two strikeouts. Corey Hawes relieved Daniel in the fourth and gave up one run on four hits and had a strikeout in 3.1 innings of work. Brandon Reeder closed out the game and pitched 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Tony Baker led the Jags with two hits, a homer, a triple and three RBI, while Casey Hanrahan was 2-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI. Matt Smith and Caleb each had two hits on the day with Smith having an RBI. Evan Smith also had a hit on the day.
For the 'Canes, Bud Long, Jared Allen and Trent Dooley each had two hits with an RBI on the afternoon, while Kevin Carroll had a hit with two RBI. Three different 'Canes each had a hit on the day.
ASU is back in action on Tuesday, March 23 for the second game of the 2010 Outback Cup against rival USC Aiken at Lake Olmstead Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
