ASU Splits With No. 11 Patriots

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State split with No. 11 Francis Marion in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jaguars took game one 5-2 and then dropped 5-4 to the Patriots in the nightcap.

With the split, the Jaguars moved to 10-20 overall and 2-9 in the conference, while Francis Marion moved to 23-7 on the season and 6-5 in the league.

For the Jags in game one, Stephen Ramsey earned the win and improved to 1-1 on the season. Ramsey pitched seven innings and gave up only one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts. Jacob Watson relieved Ramsey in the eighth and allowed only one hit and struck two batters out.

Erik Sommerville (4-2) was tagged with the loss in game one for the Patriots. Sommerville gave up three earned runs on eight hits and had six strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Jeremiah Meiners relieved Sommerville in the fifth and pitched 4.0 innings. Meiners allowed one run on one hit and had four strikeouts.

In game two, Joah Evans received the loss and dropped to 1-4 on the year. Evans lasted 8.0 innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Wilson Taylor relieved Evans and pitched the last inning of the game. Taylor allowed no hits and struck out two batters.

Tony Baker led the Jaguars with three hits and an RBI, while Alex Walker and Caleb Saggus also had three hits on the afternoon. Evan Smith, Kenny Smith and Carl Burrow each had two hits on the day with Burrow having an RBI. Curtis Parker had a homer in game two, while three different Jags each had a hit on the afternoon.

Trent Knight led Francis Marion with two hits, including a homer and three RBI, while nine different Patriots had a hit on the day.

The two teams close out the three-game series on Sunday at Jaguar Field. The first pitch for the single game is slated for noon on Sunday afternoon.
