AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State drained a season-high 15 3-pointers Wednesday night en route to a 77-49 Peach Belt Conference victory over UNC Pembroke in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
ASU senior guard Demetrius Howard established new career highs in points scored with 23 and in 3-pointers made in a game with six. Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman tallied 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks while Ben Madgen added 10 points and Daniel Dixon dished out a game-high seven assists.
With his effort, Bowman moved past former USC Upstate standout Kevin Harrington into seventh place on the PBC career scoring list with 1,543 career points. Bowman also ranks seventh all-time in ASU scoring annals.
The victory improved the Jaguars to 16-4 overall and to 11-2 in the PBC. With the loss, the Braves fell to 7-13 overall and 2-11 in the league. The win also marked ASU’s 11th straight in the series, and the Jags’ 15th win in the last 17 meetings with UNCP.
ASU led from the outset, jumping ahead quickly 8-0 behind a Garret Siler layup and treys from Steve Smith and Madgen. The Jags led by as much as 17 on three different occasions and owned a 41-27 advantage at the half. UNCP twice cut its deficit to eight early in the second half before the Jags pulled away with a 15-0 run over a span of 5:06.
Jarrell Hunter was the only player to notch double figures for the Braves, finishing with 11 points.
The Jags travel to Morrow, Ga. to face PBC rival Clayton State on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

“Dee needed to have one of those nights. We are 16-4 and we seem depressed. We played pickup yesterday at “The Oak” because we seem to be mentally drained. I thought taking our practice outdoors and having a talk about getting back to our roots of what has made us successful would sort of change our mindset.
“I saw a lot of guys smiling for the first time in a while, and I was pleased to see some jubilation tonight on our faces. We got to play a lot of folks tonight and saw some guys in some different roles. It was a good win all the way around.”
