ASU Runnerup At Shootout
HOLLYWOOD, S.C. -- Augusta State registered its best effort of the season Tuesday afternoon when the Jaguars finished runnerup at the Charleston Shootout hosted by College of Charleston at The Links at Stono Ferry.
Senior Taylor Floyd turned in his best finish of the season, notching a solo fifth-place showing with a 54-hole total of 4-under 212 (69-72-71). Freshman Robin Petersson joined Floyd in the top 10 with a solo sixth-place effort at 3-under 213 (70-69-74).
Senior Brendan Gillins booked an even-par 72 Tuesday and tied for 17th at 4-over 220 (73-75-72). Sophomore Shawn Yim matched his low round as a Jaguar with a one-over 73 and tied for 58th at 231 (77-81-73). Alex Wennstam (75) and Derek Chang (82) had the non-counting scores of the day.
The Jags, ranked No. 46 in the nation by Golfstat, were bested only by No. 25 Florida. The Gators closed with a 1-under 287 and a 15-shot win over ASU. Radford, Charleston Southern and College of Charleston rounded out the top five.
Florida's TJ Vogel, the No. 8-ranked individual in the nation, closed with an even-par 72 and registered a 1-shot victory over Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor. CSU's David Denlinger was third, followed by the Gators' Tyler McCumber and ASU's Floyd, with the Jags' Petersson a shot behind.
The Jags return to action Monday-Tuesday, March 5-6 in the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Classic, hosted by USC Aiken at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken.
