Jags Climb In Region Poll
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Fresh off its first Peach Belt Conference Championship and four all-conference selections, the Augusta State men's cross country team moved up two spots to No. 6 Tuesday in the NCAA Southeast Regional poll, a release from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association said.
It marks the highest rank ever given to the men's team, which continued to climb after entering the poll at No. 9 on October 3.
ASU came in ahead of UNC Pembroke (No. 7) and Clayton State (No. 9), who finished second and third in the PBC Championships, respectively.
The women's squad continued to hold steady, as the Lady Jaguars stayed firm at No. 9 after placing third at the PBC Championships. Freshman Jessica Carpenter notched first-team, all-conference honors after finishing fourth.
The Jags came in behind Montevallo (No. 4) and Clayton State (No. 7), and just ahead of UNC Pembroke (No. 10).
Both teams are gearing up for the NCAA Southeast Regionals at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. The race is November 5, with the top two teams advancing to the NCAA National Championships.
