Lady Jaguars Move Out In Front

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Augusta State women's golf squad kicked off its 2010 Spring season Sunday afternoon in fine fashion, combining for a four-under 284 in the first round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic.

The tourney, hosted by College of Charleston, features a 35-team field split among two courses at Oak Point Golf Club in the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

The Lady Jaguars, who played alongside East Carolina and Oregon State, turned in the only sub-par round of the day on the Cougar Point Course and moved out to a six-shot lead over East Carolina. Western Carolina is third, nine shots back of ASU while Miami and East Tennessee State are tied for fourth, 12 shots off the pace.

Senior Sarah Mooney registered a four-under 68, good for a one-shot lead over Josefine Sundh of Western Carolina. Lady Jaguar freshman Natalie Wille is alone in third place after a two-under 70 and four players are tied for fourth place.

ASU's Tamara Luccioli and Jordyn Hage each posted a one-over 73 and are tied for 16th, while sophomore Julia Stalbro signed for a 78 and is tied for 72nd.

The tourney format features a fixed-tee start for Monday, with tee times scheduled from 9:00 to 11:15 am. Tuesday's final round slated for an 8:45 a.m., shotgun start.

ASU will again be paired with ECU and Oregon State for Monday's second round. Stalbro will lead the Lady Jags out on the course at 10:15 a.m., followed by Hage at 10:24, Luccioli at 10:33 and Wille at 10:42, with Mooney anchoring the lineup at 10:51 a.m.
