Lady Jags Open Strong

SORRENTO, Fla. -- Augusta State kicked off the 2012 portion of its schedule Sunday afternoon in the UCF Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club.

The Lady Jaguars opened in fine fashion, combining for a 2-under 286 that included a 3-under 69 from sophomore Casey Kennedy. ASU is just shots off the lead held by Baylor (284/-4) and one stroke back of Auburn. Tulane and South Carolina round out the top five.

Kennedy is tied for third, just one shot back of individual leaders Hayley Davis (Baylor) and Victoria Trapani (Auburn).

Lady Jag senior Kirsty Rands and sophomore Christine Duschek-Hansen each posted an even-par 72, good for a tie for 13th. Juniors Marit Bjerke and Natalie Wille posted a 1-over 73 and 2-over 74 and are tied for 22nd and 32nd, respectively.

The UCF Challenge field includes No. 3 Auburn, No. 10 Texas, No. 21 Baylor, No. 25 South Carolina, tournament host No. 46 UCF and No. 50 Tulane.

Coastal Carolina is the defending champion, having won last year's event by one shot over Tulane and two over Minnesota, totaling a 3-over 867.
